How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Chiang Mai? Most visitors pay between 200 and 700 THB per day, depending on the bike, the season and how long they rent. Weekly and monthly rentals are much cheaper per day. Here is what to expect, what is usually included, and the extra costs people forget.

Typical prices in Chiang Mai
Prices across the city fall into a few bands. Small automatic scooters (Honda Click 125, Yamaha Fino and similar) are the cheapest and are perfect for the city. Bigger maxi-scooters like the Yamaha NMax, Honda PCX or Click 160 cost more but are much better for mountain roads and for two people. Adventure and naked bikes (300 cc and up) are a different price category.
The longer you rent, the lower the daily price: a week usually costs about 5 days' worth, and a month can cost less than half the daily rate per day.

The costs people forget
- Deposit: most shops ask for a deposit. At Fleet it is refundable: 2,000 THB for 110–160 cc bikes, 5,000 THB for the Honda CB300 and 20,000 THB for the Honda ADV350, so you keep your passport.
- Fuel: bikes are usually handed over with a full tank and should come back full, or you pay for the missing fuel.
- Delivery: many shops charge for delivery; ours is 200 THB within 3 km of the city center.
- Damage: scratches and broken mirrors are charged by most shops. Take photos or a video of the bike before you ride.
- Fines and license: riding without the right license can cost you a fine and your insurance cover; read our license guide.
- Early returns: many shops, including ours, do not refund unused days, so choose your rental length carefully.
How to get the best deal
- Rent for longer. A 7-day or 30-day rental is much cheaper per day than renting day by day.
- Book ahead in high season (December to February and Songkran in April), when the best bikes sell out.
- Choose the right size. A 125 cc is perfect for the city; pay for a bigger bike only if you plan mountain rides or ride two-up.
- Check what is included: helmets, a phone holder, delivery and cleaning can add up at other shops.
